Historic note


Telemetric System The Geodynamic Institute (G.I.) is one of the four Institutes comprising the National Observatory of Athens (N.O.A.), which is a National Research Center supervised by the General Secretariat of Research and Technology, Ministry of Development.
G.I. is one of the oldest Institutes in Greece operating continuously since 1893. In 1897 the first seismograph installed in Athens and in 1899 the first seismic network started to operate. From these years systematic and detailed seismic observations started.
The location of the Head Office of G.I. is on the hill of Nymphs, opposite to Acropolis, near the center of Athens.
